Can I drive in Florida with a Surinamese licence?

Yes. Florida allows visitors to drive on a valid home-country licence. Because the Surinamese licence is issued in Dutch, we recommend carrying an International Driving Permit (IDP) — a simple English translation of it — to make pickup smooth. With your licence, passport, and IDP, iRent gets you on the road where the big chains often turn foreign licences away.

What you need to rent (from Suriname)

We keep it simple and help you at pickup.

1. Your driver’s license

Your valid Surinamese driver’s licence. Because it is in Dutch, we recommend also bringing an International Driving Permit (IDP) — a low-cost English translation — to make pickup smooth.

2. Your passport

Bring your passport as your photo ID for the rental — standard for all international visitors.

3. A card in your name

Pay with a Visa or Mastercard — debit or credit, including cards issued in your home country. Prepaid cards aren’t accepted and the card must match the renter’s name.

4. Coverage + a refundable deposit

Add iRent’s collision & liability coverage at booking (the easy option with no US insurance), or use your own policy. A refundable security hold is placed on your card and released at return. Drivers 21+ — a young-driver fee applies for ages 21–24.

Surinamese licence — Miami car rental FAQ

Can I rent a car in Miami with a Surinamese driver’s licence?

Yes. iRent accepts a valid Surinamese driver’s licence. Because it is in Dutch, we recommend bringing an International Driving Permit (IDP) as an English translation, along with your passport, to make pickup easy.

Do I need an International Driving Permit?

It is recommended, not always mandatory. The IDP is simply an official translation of your Dutch licence; carrying one avoids any question at pickup and is inexpensive to obtain in Suriname.

Can I pay with my Surinamese bank card?

Yes. Visa and Mastercard — debit or credit, including cards issued in Suriname — are accepted for the rental and the refundable hold. No US credit card is required; the card must be in the renter’s name.

What documents do I bring from Suriname?

Your valid Surinamese licence, an International Driving Permit (recommended), your passport, and a Visa/Mastercard in your name. Add iRent’s coverage at booking if you don’t have US insurance.

What is the minimum age to rent?

21. Drivers aged 21–24 pay a small young-driver fee. Bring your licence, IDP, and passport.

Do you pick up at Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports?
