Debit rentals require collision & liability coverage (your own policy or ours) and a refundable deposit hold โ€” full requirements below. Prepaid cards aren't accepted; the card must be in the renter's name.

What you need to rent with a debit card

Like the major companies, debit rentals have a few requirements โ€” but we make them easy and help you meet them at pickup.

1. Collision & liability coverage

Use your own auto insurance (with collision, and liability of at least $50,000/$100,000) โ€” or just add iRent's coverage (collision damage waiver + liability) at booking. The easy option for international visitors and anyone without US insurance.

2. A debit card in your name

Visa or Mastercard debit โ€” domestic or international. Prepaid cards aren't accepted, and the name on the card must match the renter.

3. Refundable deposit hold

A refundable security hold is placed on your debit card (a little higher than with a credit card). It's released after you return the car in good condition.

4. Proof of address

A recent utility bill or bank statement in your name. International visitors: bring your passport and a driver's license in the Roman/Latin alphabet (or an International Driving Permit).

No US insurance? No problem โ€” add iRent's collision + liability coverage and rent with your debit card.

Debit card & international rental FAQ

Can I rent a car with a debit card in Miami or Fort Lauderdale?

Yes. iRent accepts Visa and Mastercard debit cards for both the rental and the refundable deposit hold โ€” no credit card required. You'll need collision & liability coverage (your own policy or ours), proof of address, and the card must be in your name. Prepaid cards aren't accepted.

Do I need my own insurance to rent with a debit card?

You need collision & liability coverage. Use your own auto policy (with collision and liability of at least $50,000/$100,000), or simply add iRent's coverage at booking. Most international visitors add our coverage since they don't carry US insurance.

I'm an international visitor with no US insurance โ€” can I still rent?

Yes. Add iRent's collision + liability coverage at booking and pay with your international debit card. Bring your passport and a driver's license in the Roman/Latin alphabet (or an International Driving Permit).

Do you accept international / foreign debit cards?

Yes โ€” foreign-issued debit and credit cards (Visa/Mastercard) are welcome, a key difference from the national chains that require a US credit card. Service is bilingual (English/Spanish).

Is the deposit different with a debit card?

A refundable security hold is placed on your card; on a debit card it's a little higher than with a credit card. It's released after you return the car in good condition.

What else do I need to bring?

A debit card in your name, proof of address (a recent utility bill or bank statement), and your driver's license. International renters also bring a passport and, if needed, an International Driving Permit. Minimum age 21 (young-driver fee for ages 21โ€“24).

Ready to book โ€” with your debit card?

Newer cars, no hidden fees, free 24/7 airport shuttle. International travelers welcome.
