Can I drive in Florida with a Jamaican licence?

Yes. Florida lets visitors drive on a valid licence from their home country, and because your Jamaican licence is printed in English, you don’t need a translation or an International Driving Permit (IDP) to rent or drive. The big rental chains still make it hard — they demand a US credit card or refuse foreign licences. iRent was built to say yes to Caribbean visitors.

Jamaican licence — Miami car rental FAQ

Can I rent a car in Miami with a Jamaican driver’s licence?

Yes. iRent accepts a valid Jamaican driver’s licence to rent and drive in Florida. Because it is printed in English, you do not need a translation or an International Driving Permit. Bring your licence and passport.

Do I need an International Driving Permit (IDP) as a Jamaican?

No. An IDP is only useful when a licence is not in English. Your Jamaican licence is already in English, so it is accepted on its own. An IDP is optional, never required.

What documents do I bring from Jamaica?

Your valid Jamaican driver’s licence, your passport, and a Visa/Mastercard in your name. Add iRent’s coverage at booking if you do not have US auto insurance.

How old do I have to be to rent?

The minimum age is 21. Drivers aged 21–24 pay a small young-driver fee. Bring your Jamaican licence and passport.

Do you pick up from Miami and Fort Lauderdale airports?

Yes — free 24/7 shuttle from MIA (Miami Springs branch) and FLL (Dania Beach branch), with after-hours key pickup for late flights from the island.
